Abstract

Mfr. of alkali carbonates and bicarbonates by the absorbtion of CO2 from synthesis gases (e.g. CO2, CO, H2 mixtures from which the H2, is used in the synthesis of methanol or ammonia). The bicarbonates are deposited on cooling and the carbonates precipitated by partial evaporation followed by addition of alkali hydrate solns (>30% usually 50%), by-products from the electrolytic production of chlorine. The plant may also contain a CO to CO2 converter and a means of removing sulphur.
