Abstract
Fuel cell electrode consists of an electrically conducting metal grid coated with (I) a catalyst-contg. electrically conducting layer which is suff. porous to allow the passage of gas and liquid and is enclosed in (II) a layer allowing the passage of gas but not of liquid. The catalyst-contg., electrically conducting layer I is divided into a layer (a) with lower porosity adjacent to the layer II, and a layer (b) with higher porosity. The layer I (b) has a porosity required for the penetration of liquid on the side of the electrode contacting the liquid, and the layer I (a) has a porosity required for efficient three phase contact i.e. of liquid, gas and electrode material.
