Abstract

Substrate is sensitised by coating with soln of a sensitiser or photoactivator contg. a cpd producing ions of Sn2+ Ti3+, Pb2+, Fe3+ or Hg2+ in an org. solvent to produce a coating thereof on the substrate, exposing the coated surface (partially masked) to UV light to give the desired pattern, making the surface capable of reducing a cpd of a precious metal to the metal on exposing to a soln thereof. The org. solvent improves the wettability of the surface.
