Abstract

The feeds contain all of the sugar naturally present, together with the fine internal fibres but are free from the coarse external fibres which may damage the animals digestive system. The feeds may also contain 1-2% urea or other protein substitute, 1-40% protein, 1-5% minerals, and 20-40% finely divided sugar cane tops, all expressed by weight of pith. If desired the pith may be stored in the presence of a lower carboxylic acid-producing bacteria, such as Lactobacillus. The food is esp. useful in tropical countries where the food value of forage is low.
