Abstract
A fat-free, day and stable breeding feed mixture for young tropical birds, such as weaver finches and canaries, has a consistency approximating to that of grits or flour and contains rusk-, hay-, corn- and/or leguminous flour, wood charcoal, dried insects or their intermediate development stages, at least one sugar or sugar-containing product, a calcium-containing compound and a pulverulent vitamin preparation which contains at least vitamins A, B, D and E. A preferred mixture contains at least 0,8% of the vitamin preparation, at least 4% of grape sugar, at least 5% of bees' honey, at least 2% each of leguminous flour and hay flour, 30% of curds and 13% of dried milk powder. For exceptionally sensitive and valuable young birds, 25 to 35% of bees' honey and 1% of the vitamin preparation should be included in the mixture.
