Copies are prepd. by (a) exposing a photochromatic recording material consisting of a substrate supporting a photosensitive layer contg. a spiropyran cpd. having formulae : (where R1 and R2 each is 1-3C alkyl; r3 is 1-3C alkyl or Ph; R4 is H, halogen, or 1-3C alkyl or alkoxy; r5 is H, halogen, or -NO2; R6 is 1-6C alkyl, benzyl or phenyl-methyl; r7 is 1-3C alkyl, naphthyl, opt. halogen-substd. Ph, cyclohexyl or methoxy-, hydroxy- or thio-phenyl; R8 is H, OH or -S-Me and R9 is OH or 1-3C alkoxy), an aromatic or cyclic ketone and a semiconductive metal oxide doped with >=1 metals, using light of lambda 1 wave-length, falling within range of (I) or (II) absorption wave-lengths, and then (B) exposing recording material surface to light of lambda 2 wave-length, suitable for decompsn. of aromatic ketone in presence of an alcohol, and of a cyclic ketone in absence of an alcohol or reversing steps (a) and (b).
