Abstract

The shaft carrying the vanes which wipe the inner surface of a "Luwa" type evaporator; rotates e.g. in a graphite self lubricating bearing, damage to and wear of which, is reduced by mounting it in a ball joint, to take up vibration caused by unbalance of rotor, du e to encrustation of vanes etc:. The base of the evaporator fits at a flange joint, and may easily be removed to service bearing. Pref. process fluid enters upper part of evaporator via a downward oriented slit from an annular channel distributor, to produce more even boiling and reduce entrainment. The evaporator is esp. for concentrating viscous solutions, and is heated by a steam jacket.
