Abstract

Water driven turbines with vertical shafts have to be designed usually for speeds below the critical speed because of the complexity of the seating arrangement. To counteract possible uneven running of the set, rigid radial stiffenings are used resting against the wall of the wall. Due to the expected thermal expansion of these stiffenings the success of this measure becomes doubtful. The present arrangement envisages the seating of the extreme ends of the stiffenings with an antivibration element (26) on which the extreme leg (24) rests. Alternatively the stiffener ends adjacent to the shaft also can be fitted with antivibration mountings (21). A further possibility is to place the bearer (11) with antivibration mountings at its ends on a baseplate, which too is fitted with antivibration mountings.
