Abstract
Chamotte contains 65 - 85% Al2O3 existing as >80% mullite and having a density of 1 - 1.6/cm3, gas permeability of 0.1 m3 h cm/m3 m m H2O, a porosity of >35% and fire resistance >1800 degrees C. This is made by making a mixture of Halloisite and fired alumina in 1 : 1 ratio, moulding and sintering in a rotary oven.
