Abstract

Cellular plastics is prepd. by mixing expanded perlite (I) wit a polymeric binder (IIe and heating the mixt. in a closed mould. (II) is expanded polystyrene granules, preheated to give a material with bulk density 2--60 kg/m3 added in an amt. of 0.25-4 wt. pts. (II)/pt. (I), 1.5-2.0 wt. pts. water/wt. of the dry components is added on mixing and this mixt. is heated in an autoclave, so that the satd. steam pressure rises to 1.0-2.0 atm.g. in 5-20 min. remains at this value for 10-30 min and falls to atmos. pressure in 5-10 min.
