Abstract

The oils, with V.I. 90, contain (A) an aromatic extract from a de-asphalted vacuum distillation residue of a paraffinic crude oil and (B) an opt. dewaxed vacuum distillate fraction of a paraffinic crude oil. (B) is pref. a wax-contg. light or medium heavy machine oil distillate or esp. a wax-contg. spindle oil distillate, which is pref. dewaxed before blending with (A). A pour pt. depressant, consisting of a copolymer of ethylene with a 3-5 C aliphatic monomer contg. C=C bonds, or a 16-22 C alkyl (meth)acrylate polymer, is pref. included. The oils are produced from the same paraffinic raw materials as high V.I. oils, and (A) is a low value by-product from mfr. of such oils. The viscosity and oxidn. props. of the oils are comparable with those of naphthenic medium and low V.I. oils.
