Abstract

Polyolefin fibres are produced by polymerising a monolefin in a liq. hydrocarbon in the presence of a reduced halide or oxide of a Gp IVA, VA, or VIA transition metal, with agitation by oscillation, vibration, ultrasonics or by introducing gas. The fibres are suitable for synthetic paper mfr. and they are continuously produced directly in the polymsn. vessel. The problem of firm adherence of fibres to a rotary turbine stirrer is avoided. The use of a very active catalyst (Ziegler or Phillips type) leads to a very high yield of prod. w.r.t. catalyst and eliminates the need for de-ashing.
