Abstract

Magnetic article with a non-uniform spatial distribution of the permeability, esp. substances for integrated microcircuits, are produced by (a) making a sintered solid piece of polycrystalline, magnetic, uncompensated starting material, (b) heating this piece at such a temp. that the material F1 is converted into another ferrimagnetic material F3 with a much higher free energy, (c) stopping the heating before the end of the conversion, and (d) mechanically working the piece so that at least part of the outer surface of the treated piece consists of the unconverted material F1. Process enables the permeability of the substrate to be controlled in a desired spatial distribution. The whole article is made from a single material.
