Abstract

Compsn. comprises a photoinitiator, an ethylenic monomer and a partially hydrolysed polyvinylacetate having a degree of saponification of 65-99% and a degree of polymerisation of 300-2000. The prefd. quantities are 0.1-3 pts. monomer, 0.001-0.15 pts. initiator, and 0.1-1 pt. polyvinyl acetate and compsn. pref. also contains 0.01-0.3% of a thermal polymerisation inhibitor. Prefd. monomers are mono- tetra acrylates and methacrylates of hydroxy cpds. Alkyl ethers of benzoin are prefd. as photoinitiators. Suitable thermal polymerisation inhibitors are 2,6-di-t-butylcresol, hydroquinone and p-methoxyphenol. The compsn. may also contain an anti-halation material. On printing plates using the compsn. with pref. Al, tin, or steel as support, the compsn. shows improved adhesion compared with previous water developable compsn.
