Abstract

Industrial and other waste effluents are purified by accelerated biological oxidn. in a rectangular tank in which the effluent is circulated around a horizontal, perforated partition, while a stream of oxygen and/or air bubbles are released near the base of the tank. The bubbles pass through liq. currents flowing in opposite directions on opposite sides of the partition, each rising bubble being double-deflected to take an extended contacting path to the surface; the oxidising gas is thus used very efficiently and the treatment capacity to size ratio of the plant is high.
