Abstract
Chamber is intended for the extn of solid and semi-solid particles as well as toxic gaseous components, from the air or other contaminated medium. The new appts. comprises an electrode assembly with a discharge electrode placed in a gas passage between two receiving electrodes arranged concentrically; a current of the contaminated gas flows upwards and a flushing assembly at the upper end produces a downward flow of liq. films over the surfaces of the receiving electrodes. These liq. films can be acid or alkaline, so the device can also act as a chemical reactor to create interesting cpds. which can be extraced as by-prods. The gas to be purified enters through Venturi slots at the bottom and is subjected to an electrostatic field produced by discharge electrodes fed with current from a D.C. generator. It also passes over the liq. films to give by-prods which can be recovered and sold. The chemicals used depend upon the nature of the contaminants in the gas to be purified.
