Abstract

Ozone is added to flue gas to convert sulphur dioxide into sulphur trioxide before treatment of the flue gas in an electrostatic precipitator. The total sulphur trioxide formed is preferably in the range of 0.002 to 0.005% by volume of the flue gas. The gas may be subjected to ultrasonic vibrations to promote contact between the sulphur dioxide and the ozone.
