Abstract

Solid or liquid materials are applied to unspun textile fibres by moving in contact with the fibres a suspension in gas of separated particles of the material to be applied, in which suspension not less than 95 per cent of the mass of the material consists of particles of not more than 30 microns in size. The particles may carry electrical charges of the same sign and be at a higher temperature than the fibres. The material may serve as a lubricant for the fibres or serve to reduce dust and fly. In Examples, unspun cotton fibres are treated with (1) a suspension in air of stearic acid particles, (2) a dioctyl phthalate smoke, and (3) a suspension in air of a mineral oil-aqueous emulsion. The suspension may be made by the aerosol generator described in Specification 617,155, [Group XXIX]. Specification 368,733 also is referred to.
