Abstract
A process of reducing an ore by agglomerating the powdered ore with a solid C reductor by means of a binder, prereducing the agglomerates in a rotating furnace, and finally reducing in an electric furnace, in which the proportions of oxides of Fe and Cr in the initial agglomerates is such that Cr/Fe wt. ratio is 3, and the heating of the agglomerates by gases from the prereduction zone is relatively slow up to 900 degrees C, then rapid to 900-1200 degrees C, and in a second reduction zone the temp. is raised to 1400 degrees C. Prevents the agglomerates from disintegrating or crumbling during treatment.
