Abstract

Cpds. of formula (I) (where R1 is H, lower alkyl (opt. substd by cycloalkyl, halogen, or Ph), lower alkanoyl (opt. substd by cycloalkyl) or lower alkenyl or alkynyl (opt. substd. by phenyl); R2 is lower alkyl, R3 is 1-20C alkyl or cycloalkyl-lower alkyl; Y is 1-8C alkylene, R4 is a gp. of formula (II) where a and b 1-4; X is CH2, O, S or NR5 (but when X = O, S or NR5, a=b=2), R5 is H or lower alkyl; R6 is H or lower alkyl bonded to a ring C atom) and their acid addn salts have analgesic and mild tranquillising activity, and also anticonvulsant and sedative/hypnotic activity. They are pref. prepd. by reacting the corresp. phenolic cpd. with R4-Y-COOH or its salt.
