Abstract

An aerofoil shape synthetic resin (e.g. polyamide, polyester, epoxy resin) has encapsulated in it a metal plate which is exposed at the leading edge of the blade and which is also pref. exposed at the trailing edge of the blade whereby the edgees of the plate define respectively the leading and trailing edges of the blade. The plate pref. has apertures into which the resin can flow to provide a mechanical key. Alternatively, two plates may be provided such that they are exposed respectively at the leading and trailing edges of the blade, and the plates may be connected by a fibre (e.g. glass, carbon) reinforced resin (epoxy) plate. The blade is cheap to produce and the edges are shock and abrasion resistant.
