Abstract

Cpds. of gen. form (I): where R = H, alkyl (1-4C) or alkenyl (2-4C); R1 and R3 are each alkyl (1-4C); are prepd. by reacting a cpd. (II): Cl-CH2-CO-NH-R with a cpd. (III): the presence of a diluent such as benzene, toluene or xylene and opt. a catalyst such as (in)org. acids esp. p-toluenesulphonic acid. Pref. temp. 100-180 degrees C. (I) have herbicidal activity and are used esp. as selective herbicides in cultures such as beets, soyabeans, maize, cotton as well as grains such as barley, rye and wheat to destroy weeds. Application may be pre- or post emergent at 0.525 kg/ha.
