1317080 O-Chlorophenols QUAKER OATS CO 29 Dec 1971 [16 Feb 1971] 60451/71 Heading C2C Ortho-chlorophenols are prepared by contacting a chlorinated alicyclic ketone having the general formula wherein X is a hydrogen or chlorine radical, with a nitrogen-containing catalyst which is an amine, amide, urea, or acid salt thereof at a temperature between 100‹ and 300‹ C. The amount of catalyst present is preferably from 0À1 to 10% by weight of the ketone. The catalyst is preferably a heteroaromatic amine, an aromatic amine, an aliphatic amine, an N- alkyl substituted amide or urea, an N-aryl substituted amide or urea, or an acid salt thereof.
