Abstract

Hardenable resinous compsns. for use as protective and anti-oxidising coatings, partic. for iron articles, contain >=1 hydraulic cement, >=1 anti-rust pigment, active in water, and >=1 epoxide resin, having an epoxide equiv. of 170-250, and a viscosity of 150-20,000 cP at 25 degrees C., and a water vehicle. The mixture also contains an amino hardener, for the resin, which is emulsifiable in water and acts as an emulsifier for the resin. A small amt. of water-miscible, volatile, org. solvent for the resin may also be added. The ratio of resin to hydraulic cement is between 5/1 and 1/5. The compsn. is supplied in two parts (1) the resin, hydraulic cement, pigment and org. solvent, (2) the water and hardener; the two parts are mixed before use and have a usable life of 30 mins.
