Abstract

Process involves the application of a fluorcarbon resin, pref. PTFE to form a continuous resin coating on the hull. The application is effected by a spray gun with the resin in powder form, or as an emulsion, on to the ship's plates which are pref. heated. The hull is protected from marine growths but the resistance of the hull to its passage through the water is considerably reduced. Electrolytic phenomena in the sea-water are also limited. Process is equally applicable to pipes in which sea-water is circulated. A coating of the resin on the internal surface keeps the internal surfaces clean in spite of the foreign bodies carried by the sea-water.
