Abstract

A variable length pipe coupling having a tubular section with flexible undulating walls and ends which are rigid adaptors which can be coupled to standard pipes. One adaptor is integral with a cylindrical sleeve which extends beyond the corrugated centre portion sufficiently for the other adaptor to slide within the sleeve as the corrugated section changes length. Pref. the central portion is made of polypropylene and the end adaptors of chlorinated PVC, pref. with the ends of the flexible portion having a trapezoidal cross-section (longitudinally) to ensure adequate anchorage/seal as a moulded-in insert in the adaptors. For use with pipe systems carrying hot water, esp. systems made of chlorinated PVC. Design does not restrict the flow bore and does not depend on toroidal rubber seals which might be displaced by hydrostatic pressure.
