Abstract
The steel contains 3-3.8% C, 1.40-1.80% Si, 0.60-0.90% Mn, 3.5-5.00% Ni, 1.00-2.00% Cr, max 0.10% P, and 0.10% S, and a carbide forming element pref. 0.15% B. The structure is composed of cementite and martensite with a small amt. of residual austenite, and the hardness varies from 57-62 Rc. The steel has greatly improved wear and impact resistance and is suitable for rotary blades in grinding machines and pumps, and for dies.
