Abstract

A colloidal suspension of neutral bismuth phosphate, useful in treatment of gastro-enterological disorders, is prepd. by mixing a soln of phosphoric acid with an equimolar amt of bismuth subnitrate. After maintaining the soln. at 40-45 degrees C for about 12 hrs. the supernatant soln is neutralised with chalk and the ppte, washed with water and NaHCO3. In an example, Bi nitrate was dissolved in NHO3 to give a soln contg. 300 g/l Bi. This was mixed at 45 degrees C with an equal vol. of phosphoric acid. The mixt. stood overnight, the soln was siphoned off, neutralised with 0.300 g chalk, and the ppte. washed with 30% NaHCO3.
