Abstract

Thiadiazole derivs. of formula (I):- (where n is 1 or 2) are used for preserving insect diets. They have excellent fungicidal activity which makes them suitable for preventing fungal infection of artificial and semi-synthetic insect diets (used for rearing insects on an industrial scale) based on agar, carbohydrates, protein and/or natural insect foods. Addn. of (I) in amts. of 25-100 ppm. to diets for Spodoptera littoralis and Heliothis virescens inhibits the growth of Penicillium spp., Mucor spp., P.digital-is, Aspergillus niger and A. melleus for several weeks.
