Abstract

Bimetallic or bialloy tubes composed of different layers with different mechanical props. can be centrifugally cast from a wide range of alloys, e.g. Cu, Cu alloys, Cr, Ni, Fe base alloys and alloys contg. Al + Si. Gas or slag protection is used to prevent the formation of oxide films on the solidifying surface of the primary cast layer before casting of the inner layer. This results in good jointing. An adjustable splash cap is also detailed which is used to compensate for the contraction on solidification of the primary layer and prevent material from the secondary layer reaching the outer surface of the tube. Tubes with high strength inner layers and corrosion resistant outer layers, etc., can be thus cast.
