Abstract

Cushions are assembled from two complementary mouldings, each comprising a moulded foamed plastics core inside a material which covers all the exposed surfaces and part of the mating faces of the assembly. Pref. the two component mouldings are symmetrical and are joined by complementary tongue and groove or dove-tailed profiles moulded into the mating faces. Opt. the mouldings incorporate reinforcing inserts, e.g. metal hoops. Pref. the component mouldings are made by in situ foaming of a cross linkable resin system in a cavity prelined with a thermoplastic cover material by vacuum forming. Esp. claimed for mfr. of automobile head rests or anti backlash safety cushions. Mfr. using pre-covered and reinforced mating mouldings avoids need for tailoring of separate covers or fitting to independent supports as required by mono block cushion cores.
