Abstract
Substance having a coefft. of thermal expansion and/or coefft. of heat conductivity not exceeding those of the glass, and an m.pt. below that of the glass is applied onto >=1 edge of a glass plate (that to be first immersed into the cooling liquid), which is going to be tempered by heating to a temp. above the strain point in the vicinity of the softening point and then cooling to a temp. below the strain point by immersion in a cooling liquid (at 95-230 degrees C). By this method, cracking of glass plates edges is avoided.
