Abstract

Treatment of naturally or artificially yellowed tobacco leaves is improved by first comminuting the leaves to particles smaller than 2 mm. and homogenising, then subjecting the mass to any desired processing, such as maturing under specific temp. and air-humidity conditions, treatment with chemicals or enzymes etc. and subsequently drying in opt. restored leaf shape (thickness 9.5-0.75 mm). The desired changes in the tobacco characteristics, the removal of carcinogenic substances, etc. are brought about more effectively when the leaves are comminuted.
