Abstract

The cylinder includes two parallel, circular formations of pulleys mounted pref. in an enclosed housing, and a continuous elastic strand is threaded sinuously, backwards and forwards from a pulley in one formation to a pulley in the other formation so that the spans of the strand extending between the two formations define a cylindrical surface. A textile yarn to be treated is wrapped helically around the cylindrical surface and the pulleys are rotated to advance the elastic strand and therefore the yarn. A treatment gas or vapour for e.g. drying or fixing the yarn may be supplied to the chamber. The yarn doesn't slip and presents a greater surface to be acted on by the treatment gas or vapour. Damage to the yarn is reduced.
