Abstract

Granulated and formed or pressed materials are sintered or fired in a furnace comprising a vertical furnace shaft, in and outlets for fuel and flue gases, and gas connections to the chimney incorporating exhausts whereby the furnace shaft terminates in a dome with one or more product charging parts and is provided with a multitude of tangential and/or downwards inclined gas entries. Above the domed section of the shaft another furnace chamber is arranged, divided into a calcining and a preheat section, incorporating gas tight product charging and discharging locks. Part of the flue gases may be recirculated via the burners for carburisation to the furnace. The control of the gas quality, quantity and pressure as well as the product feed control improves the quality of the end product.
