Abstract

Mfr. of metallic workpieces comprising an approx. cylindrical body with >=1 projection extending perpendicularly to the axis of the body is by (a) using an approx. cylindrical bar whose length is greater than, but whose volume equals those of the finished workpiece, (b) placing the bar in a die with two relatively mobile elements which allow removal of the finished workpiece, (c) moving two punches relatively to the die so as to simultaneously press the two ends of the bar and to extrude it through the die elements to form a projection, and (d) separating the die elements and removing the extruded workpiece. Extrusion may take place in a series of operations with intermediate heat treatments.
