Abstract
Modified wadding consists of cotton and/or viscose fibres contg. 4-15% chemically bonded or heat fixed hydrophilising polymer. Specif. the wedding consists of a graft copolymer of cellulose or viscose with a hydrophilising polymer formed by introducing radical gps. in the cellulose or viscose, or by a chain transfer reaction. The graft copolymer may also be prepd. by irradiating the cellulose or viscose with ionising radiation, so that a dose of 1-3 M rad is absorbed. The wadding is impregnated with a dispersion of a hydrophilising polymer dried, and heat fixed. Used esp. as dressing for wounds. The heated wadding has a capacity for absorbing a layer quantity of tissue secretions.
