The board 1 is placed on a mask Z and the operator selects a first component from a component station A 1 and presses a switch 4a at the station which lights a lamp 5a at the station and a light source (15) (Fig. 2, not shown) in the mask 2, for indicating the area where the component is to be mounted on the board 1. A holding relay (20) (Fig. 4, not shown) is simultaneously energized, the relay (20) being connected to the electrical power source through the closed switch 4b associated with the next component station A 2 in the sequence. After mounting the component on the board 1, the operator selects a second component from station A 2 and presses switch 4b which lights a lamp 5b at the station and a source (16) in a different position on the mask 2 and which de-energizes the first relay (20) so that the lamp 5a and source (15) are extinguished. If the operator presses switch 4c instead of switch 4b, the light sources 5a and (15) remain illuminated together with light sources 5c and (17) thereby alerting the operator.
