Abstract
Forge welds are produced in e.g. longitudinally welded tubes using a current of liquified gas (I) to protect the weld zone. Pref. (I) is supplied by heat insulating nozzles at 0.1-2 litres/minute and is intent in relation to the metal to be welded, pref. (I) is N2 or Ar, and the metal is carbon or stainless steel or a light metal e.g. al heated by h.f. induction.
