Abstract

Binder comprising 20-68% calcium sulphate demihydrate, 8-75% overburned material or anhydrite, and 5-72% white cement or clinker, the overburned material/demi-hydrate ratio being >0.4. The binder can also contain 0.2% organic retarder. The anhydrite is orthorhombic and is obtained by dehydrating gypsum by heating at 500-800 degrees C. The demi-hydrate may be alpha or beta obtained by heating in an autoclave or a non-saturating atmos. respectively. The specific surface area of the clinker is 2000-5000 cm2/g but pref. 3000-4000 cm2/g. The binder shows low shrinkage thus reducing the chance of cracking. The elastic modulus of pure pastes is about three times smaller than usual cement concretes and the sound insulation coefft. is three times greater. It can also be cast vertically since its initial degree of swelling is lower than that of conventional plaster.
