Abstract

A pliable polyethylene sheet forms a receiving shell to hold a mass of colloidal silica in the form of fine granules; a layer of cellulose wadding covers this mass. Lines of welding are distributed over the surface and unite the two sides at corresponding points; they distribute the granules uniformly and prevent their accumulation in one corner of the article. A non-woven fabric, made from artificial and/or synthetic fibres bonded chemically with a natural or synthetic polymer, covers the whole article. The latter has a strong absorbing and liq. retention power; it can be made cheaply so that it can be thrown away after use. The articles, are for use in baby's napkins, sanitary towels and draw-sheets for incontinent sick persons.
