Abstract

Porous tubular diffusion barriers for the isotopic concentration of uranium hexafluoride gas, are tied together in bundles and separated by plates. These plates and tubes must be joined by a material forming an elastic seal which is also strong and resistance to corrosion. This is done by depositing, first at the gas exit end, a PTFE resin under pressure and by partial fusion, right across the outer side of the plate and in the gaps between the tubes and the their holes in the plate, using a mould on both sides. These are then removed and the plate at the entry end is put onto the tubes. There the holes are cylindrical internally but externally a truncated cone, smaller end innermost. The PTFE resin is deposited as before but using only an outer mould.
