Abstract
Imido-substd. poly(acrylene oxides) having at least one chemically bonded imido-residue of formula (I):- (R is a divalent, organic, opt. halogenated, hydrocarbon residue). Maleimido residues are preferred. Moulded articles; paints when used together with an organic solvent; as insoluble coatings when hardened by ionising radiation or heat- or peroxide- curing (coatings for electric wires). Polymers or unsatd. monomers can be added. (I) By reaction of a polyarylene oxide comprising units -AO- with an imido-substd. organoacylhalide MR"COD (M and R" are as above, A is a divalent, aromatic carbocyclic (halo)hydrocarbon, and D is halogen). (2) By Friedel-Crafts alkylation of a polyarylene oxide using a cpd. M(CHR')mG(G=D or OH; m=2-4).
