Abstract
Drive mechanism for carrying articles through a furnace comprises a tubular metal roller or series of rollers each contg. an inner perforated tube for admission and removal of coolant fluid, which run on bearings located outside and on both sides of the furnace, a refractory tube surrounding the metal tube and of larger dia. than the metal tube, and propelled by it, and a continuous series of baths, running on the top of the refractory roller(s) and moved forward thereby. Alternatively, the baths may be replaced by flat bottomed articles to be fired, which stretch over several rollers. The design separates the functions of thermal and mechanical constraints, and permits adequate sealing to prevent escape of coolant.
