Abstract

A small area of tube is heated at the same moment as the tube is bent and this area is moved according to the displacement of the deformation region. Tubes may be bent to a small radius of curvature without the need for an internal mandrel. Right angle tube sections can be obtd. which are scarecely deformed and which show little thining of the extrados. This bending method can be used in existing bending appts. The heating area is usually a small square, the side of which is 3-5 times the tube thickness. The tube may be heated internally or externally.
