Abstract
Mfr. of a porous agglomerate of Mo suitable for adding to molten steel comprises reducing MoO3 contg. as impurities Cu and S to the metal in two stages (to MoO2 and Mo) by heating at is not >500 degrees C in the first stage with a carbonaceous material and in the second stage to 11-1300 degrees C in inert atmosphere as in BE 708726 wherein the gaseous reaction products are evacuated away from the reacting mass, and the second stage is carried out at a pressure of 1 torr of inert gas at 1200-1500 degrees C. The impurities are reduced in quantity while retaining the porosity of the granules, enabling the Mo to be introduced into the steel melt and to dissolve and distribute rapidly.
