Abstract
Composite solid propergol blocks are prepared by mixing the following at room temp. in a dry state: (1) the oxidising charge made of NH4, Na or K perchlorates or nitrades, opt. with (2) a reducing charge contg. Al, Mg, Be and Zr, opt. with (3) combustion regulators, e.g. inorganic salts or carbon black and (4) a normally solid org. binder, melting or cross-linking at 70-180 degrees C and turning solid when re-cooled to room temp. and selected from dienic and aromatic polyolefins, epoxy resins, PVC, vinyl acetate resins, phenolic resins, ester based waxes, colophony, pitch, U-F and M-F resins. The mixture is ground into particles of size 1-400 mu and moulded at a temp. > m.p. or cross-linking temp. of the binder under 10-300 bars, cooled and de-moulded. The compsn. being solid, is more effectively mixed and is easily introduced into the mould.
