Molten metal, e.g. sodium, - cooled nuclear reactor with integral heat exchangers, comprising a reactor vessel contg. the cooling medium, with a cover extended upwards by at least one sleeve of smaller section, and a device for maintaining the free surface of the cooling medium inside the sleeve or sleeves, consisting of a downwardly open container immersed in the body of the medium and into the top part of which a gas inert to the medium can be introduced or allowed to escape by a control device.
