Abstract
1410157 Introducing additives to ferrous melts KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 17 Aug 1973 38956/73 Heading C7D Mg or other additive is added to a cast iron or iron alloy melt 2 in vessel 1 by means of a refractory immersion converter 3 having openings 10 admitting into reaction chamber 6 containing Mg. The converter 3 includes a steel reinforcing cage 9 to which is attached a metal filling pipe 13, the pipe 13 being fixed to a cover 14 for the vessel, The pipe 13 includes a rod 17 having a refractory plug 12 which closes the filling opening 11. In operation, the chamber 6 is filled with Mg, the opening 11 is plugged, and the cover 14 holding the converter 3 is lowered by jacks 18. The number of openings 10 is such that the reaction does not begin until the converter is completely submerged, In another embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the chamber has an asymmetrical shape,
