Abstract
Deoxidising a Si contg. steel melt by blowing pulverent basic slag which may contain a flux in an inert carrier gas. The SiO2 in the slag has low activity and is present as >=1.5 mm particles blown at a given depth into the melt. The process prevents addition of undesirable materials to the melt under the above conditions.
